A buttress (sawtooth) thread has asymmetric flanks — typically 3°/30° or 7°/45° — so it carries very high axial load in one direction. It is used in jacks, clamps, hydraulic and pressure equipment, pipe strings and heavy-duty connections.
Buttress taps are rarely available from catalogues, so they are almost always made to drawing. We make large buttress taps and buttress taps with a range of flank angles, and can supply roughing + finishing sets to your nut drawing.
