An anti-loosening tap produces an internal thread with a wedge ramp at the root. When a standard bolt is tightened, its crests are pressed against the ramp, so the joint resists loosening under vibration without adhesives or lock washers. These threads are used in automotive, rail, wind power and construction machinery.

Do self-locking threads need special bolts?
No. The wedge-ramp internal thread works with standard external threads. Only the pre-drilled hole and tapping parameters differ from a normal thread, and we provide recommendations for both.
